On 15^th April 2021, UPT PP ESTEM Del Institute of Technology in cooperation with North Sumatera Education Department in Karo Regency held a webinar entitled “STEM  (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) based Learning” for teachers in Karo Regency, ranging from kindergarten to senior high school teachers. The aim of this event was to socialise STEM approaches in general.  The teachers were expected to be able to implement STEM teaching approaches at their own schools.

The socialisation consisted of three main sessions, with a duration of 20 minutes in each session. The first session was about “21^st Century Skills”. It was led by Indra H. Tambunan, Ph.D. The second session was led by Dedy Anwar, M.T. He elaborated on “STEM Skills”. The third session was about “Student Centred Learning (SCL)” which was presented by Dr. Merry Meryam Martgrita, S.Si, M.Si. In addition, there was a brief introduction of BEBRAS delivered by Mario E. Simare-mare.

This webinar was held online by integrating Zoom Meeting and Del Institute of Technology YouTube channel. The event was attended by the Head of North Sumatera Education Department in Karo Regency, Dr. Drs. Eddi Surianta Surbakti, M.Pd., the Head of Education Department Unit, Syahri Ginting, and 559 teachers of different schools and subjects.

After this webinar, UPT PP ESTEM Del Institute of Technology will organise a workshop about designing SCL based lesson plans. The target participants of the workshop are teachers  from schools selected by UPT PP ESTEM team. The targeted outcome of the whole webinar series is a paper of SCL implementation in various subjects, particularly in science, in a publishing education journal.
