UPT PP ESTEM Del Institute of Technology

Del Institute of Technology, a part of EASTEM (Euro-Asia Collaboration for Enhancing STEM Education) Indonesia, collaborated with North Sumatera Education Department in Karo Regency to hold a workshop with topic “Designing SCL Lesson Plans” with teachers from primary and junior high schools in Karo Regency on Wednesday, 30th June 2021, 09.00-11.00 WIB. This workshop is the subsequent event after the first webinar “STEM based Learning” held on 15th April 2021.

The agenda of the workshop was started with elaboration on lesson plans which was delivered by the keynote speaker, Nacep Hamrat. It was followed by group discussions based on subject groups. There were 103 teachers participating in this workshop. They were divided into groups according to the subject that they teach. There were 5 groups of subjects overall with one or two facilitators in each group. The first was a group of primary school teachers (various subjects) with Monalisa Pasaribu, S.S., M.Ed (Tesol) as the facilitator. The second was a group of junior high school science teachers with Dedy Anwar, S.T., M.T as the facilitator. The third was junior high school language teachers (Bahasa Indonesia and English) with Juli Yanti  Damanik, S.S., M.Tesol as the facilitator. The fourth was junior high school teachers (social, civics, and religion subjects) whose facilitators were Tahan Sihombing S.Pd., M.App Ling (Tesol) and Nacep Hamrat. The last one was a group of junior high school mathematics teachers with Sari Silalahi, S.Pd., M.Ed. as the facilitator.

Teachers in each group discussed over their experience and reflection on their teaching practice in relation to SCL implementation, whether they had applied teaching methods that reflect SCL approaches in their class before or not. In addition, they also brainstormed about possible teaching methods to implement SCL in their class in the future. Finally, a representative of each group shared the results of their discussion with the main forum.

At the end of the workshop, the teachers were given a task to design a lesson plan for the upcoming semester. The targeted outcome of the whole webinar series is a paper of SCL implementation in various subjects, particularly in science, in a publishing education journal.
